Sharam wins Radio 1's Essential Mix of the year
Sharam´s Statement:
“It's a real honour to win this prestigious award given the illustrious list of previous winners and especially as the competition this year was so tough. This is a testament to my belief that people like their musical journey varied. I'd like to thank all the listeners around the world that voted”.
SHARAM VOTED BBC RADIO 1’S ESSENTIAL MIX OF THE YEAR 2009
US dance icon, Sharam, has been voted Essential Mix Of The Year by BBC Radio 1’s listeners.
The results of an online public vote saw the Grammy Award winner take the hallowed top spot, beating off stiff competition by Subfocus, Luciano & Deadmau5, Fake Blood, Gui Boratto, and many more.
Sharam’s 2 hour mix was originally broadcast on 29 August; alongside a slew of his own productions and remixes, his set featured tracks and remixes from Ennio Morricone, Nic Fanciulli, Kid Cudi, Okain, DJ Pierre, Joris Voorn, D-Unity, Cedric Gervais, Steve Aoki, and more.
His winning mix will be broadcast in an Essential Mix special on 26 December from 5am GMT, and will be available to listen again online for seven days.
BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix features the world’s biggest DJs on the world’s biggest decks every Saturday morning (3am to 5am).
The Essential Mix Of The Year 2009 results (Top 5):
1. Sharam
2. Subfocus
3. Luciano & Deadmau5 at Wonderland Ibiza
4. Fake Blood
5. Gui Boratto
Based in Washington DC, Sharam’s profile rivals fellow dance stars such as David Guetta, Deadmau5, and Tiesto, though repeated chart and daytime radio success has never eclipsed his reputation for putting out anthemic underground dance bombs. For every hit like ‘P.A.T.T (Party All The Time)’, he’s released Beatport faves such as ‘Texi’, ‘Kill (Techno)’, and ‘Get Wild’, all heavily supported by the likes of Angello, Ingrosso, Luciano, Cox, Morillo, Guetta, Tiesto, and beyond. Few have been able to rattle both of sides of the musical fence with such precision.
